Littlestar She-cat 33 moons Heterosexual ThunderClan Leader Played by @uiido | Appearance
▸ brown tabby her, green eyes ▸full body photograph
like her name suggests, littlestar is a cat who has always been rather small compared to her clanmates. though half the size of some of her clanmates, littlestar is lithe and athletic in build, a cat made to be fast and nimble. sleek and slender, littlestar is quite careful to groom her short, thick pelt, often until it is smooth and glossy. as for the pelt itself, brown tabby marks cover littlestar from ears to tail tip, dark against her dusty brown base coat. however, her paws, underbelly, and muzzle are a lighter brown in color, not unlike most tabbies. as for littlestar's sharp, oval eyes, they are a light green in coloration, like a tree leaf.
Personality
▸ theme song
▸ courageous as a cat who was always small and could never rely on strength for power, littlestar relied on something within instead. courage and bravery have been a defining trait in littlestar since the time she opened her eyes, even if she couldn't always see it in herself. her faith in her clan and her dedication to them, even in times where things seemed dark and grim are proof alone of her dedication, and the courage of her conviction alone is to be admired.
though littlestar quite thoroughly believes that she lives, or at least did at one point, a quiet life, and does no more for her clan than any of her clanmates. everything she did was because she was a loyal warrior of thunderclan. it really wasn't until littlestar became deputy herself until she began to see what other cats saw in her: bravery to be a warrior, courage to do what was best for the clan even if it wasn't best for her, conviction to do whatever it took to make thunderclan survive ... is it perhaps any surprise that littlestar became leader?
▸ kind as a cat who was always small and lacking the power of a brute, littlestar seemed to focus more on kindness and sympathy. never a bully, and yet never bullied either, littlestar seemed to get along well with most cats, a cat who was generally well liked and well thought of by everyone. though rather introverted in personality, littlestar tries to hold a friendly relationship with all thunderclan clanmates she gets along with, as best as she can. yet, littlestar holds those closest to her in the highest regard, however, and will often turn to them for advice and companionship.
littlestar has always had a sympathetic heart, and has always been quite conscious of those who have had loss, much like herself. losing all of her family as well as her mentor and apprentice has always made littlestar quite keenly aware of the suffering of other cats. suffering comes in more than one way, with death not always at the bottom of things. but littlestar is a kind enough cat to know that any cat in suffering is a cat who needs her compassion and kindness, as well as her support, regardless if the reason is death or a twisted paw.
▸ reserved as a cat who lives a rather introverted existence, most cats have known littlestar was reserved from the moment they met her. littlestar is often a cat who thinks before she speaks, returning well-thought words, and who frequently listens and watches opposed to making the first move, littlestar is in many ways, an observer.
it surprises many cats that littlestar, despite being a cat so reserved, boasts many traits and qualities that make her a fitting thunderclan leader. perhaps the trait that seems to surprise most cats when they experience it for the first time is littlestar's comfort and skill as a public speaker. she is usually careful when selecting her words, and gives out well thought ideas and suggestions when possible, unafraid to raise her voice when she is needed, despite watching and listening at other times.
▸ strong minded strong minded is perhaps the best word to describe the head on littlestar's shoulders, and encompasses several aspects of her personality. perhaps first is the sheer intelligence littlestar possesses, the level of smarts that makes her capable of strategy and planning on the fly as well as being able to sit for long periods of time to make a well-educated decision. but, though littlestar is smart, she is never smart enough to think she knows it all, and is constantly willing to learn, to better herself, or to improve whatever is possible to fix.
but just because a cat is smart does not always mean they can control their temper. littlestar was lucky enough to have a level-head to match her clever brain, boasting a temperament that often keeps her calm and observant. though she has moments of justifiable anger, littlestar manages her temper very well, often willing to listen to a story of a cat breaking a rule, and typically unwilling to be goaded into an argument. but just because littlestar often won't be dragged into a fight doesn't mean that when she is, she won't hold a grudge, and often has a hard time dropping one once she has one.
History

▸ kit from the time littlekit opened her eyes, she wanted to be a great thunderclan warrior. littlekit was born the youngest of three, having two older brothers named brownkit and eaglekit. brownkit was named for his bold, dark brown fur, and eaglekit for his spotted brown tabby pelt. littlekit herself was named for her size, seeming ever so small compared to her two large brothers. their mother, mousepelt, a well-liked queen in the clan, was a proud of her three kits, and even prouder that they were the kits of rowanfire, a respected senior warrior in the clan.
where mousepelt was quite loving to her three kits, rowanfire was somewhat distant to them, particularly during their time in the nursery. he was far too busy with warrior duties, with his position in the clan, to visit more than once in a while, and told mousepelt that he was sure that the three kits would be well cared for. and, to be honest, they were nearly spoiled under mousepelt's care.
but even the best care didn't help the fact that the kits were born in leaf-bare. when the kits were two moons old, brownkit contracted a cold which swiftly developed into whitecough, and then into greencough. though the medicine cats worked all their remedies on the young tom, he did not respond and passed swiftly, leaving mousepelt all the more protective of her kits.
by the time eaglekit and littlekit were old enough to go out and play, it was the end of leaf-bare, but there was still plenty of snow to play in. the two had fun sneaking up on each other and pushing one another into snow banks. however, they did manage to collapse a heap of snow into the warrior's den entrance once, leaving cats to dig their way in or out. the two kits hurried right back to the nursery before anyone could realize what they had done.
in the moons before the two kits apprenticeships, the snow and frost of leafbare had gone, and in it's place was the warmth and green of new-leaf, truly a sight to behold for the young kits. littlekit was fascinated by the sight of flowers blooming, and how fat the fresh-kill was now that the snow was gone. mousepelt was quite happy to explain the cycles of seasons to her kits, and, they later realized, delighted at the thought of not having to lose her two remaining kits to greencough any time soon.
▸ apprentice when eaglekit and littlekit reached their sixth moon of age, the leader, stonestar announced they were ready to begin their apprenticeship. with mousepelt spending the better part of the morning grooming her two kits for their big ceremony, stonestar gathered the clan together at sunhigh. the whole clan was present, even their father rowanfire, eager to see two kits begin their life as clan cats. eaglepaw was named an apprentice first, and was given a queen named hazelwhisker for his mentor. littlepaw was named next, and to her surprise, was given redfang, hazelwhisker's brother and the clan deputy, as her own mentor. mousepelt had looked like she would burst with pride the whole while.
as their ceremony had taken place at sunhigh, hazelwhisker and redfang were eager to get their apprentices to training. though their first session was nothing more than a tour of the territory and their first glimpse of the borders, eaglepaw and littlepaw were fascinated by all they saw, and were quite careful to make sure they remembered it all. hazelwhisker and redfang liked to train their apprentices together, from time to time, but usually trained them apart, realizing they really were two different cats with two different learning styles, even if they got along quite well.
redfang was a diligent mentor for littlepaw, and was the first cat who taught her that being small didn't mean she couldn't be dangerous. though she couldn't be as big and strong as eaglepaw, littlepaw was fast and was able to think on the fly, traits the deputy worked hard to highlight in his apprentice. but, redfang didn't want his apprentice to be good at one thing and one thing only, and spent countless training sessions to make sure littlepaw was as fierce a fighter as the biggest, meanest shadowclan cat.
littlepaw was a fast learner, though her body needed a little practice, but redfang was proud of his apprentice, believing that she had real talent that would be shown some day. littlepaw was quite pleased to see that eaglepaw was developing well to, a perfect match with hazelwing, who threw a new challenge his way once eaglepaw had mastered something else.
as a pair of eager, hardworking apprentices, littlepaw and eaglepaw grew close to a set of cats who were only a few moons older than them, and had left the nursery while they were still young, a pair of brothers. stonepaw and briarpaw were bright and showed as much promise as littlepaw and eaglepaw, making them wonderful companions. though stonepaw seemed to take pleasure in teasing littlepaw, often about her size, she was rather fond of briarpaw. the tom was wise and thoughtful, and worked harder than any cat she knew.
part way through their apprenticeship, they were informed that stonestar would need to leave to speak to starclan at highstones, and that the two apprentices would be needed as his escort. hazelwhisker was on the accompanying patrol, as well as another warrior, as redfang was needed in camp. the day to highstones took an entire day and a bundle of strengthening herbs, but, they made it to high faced stones littlepaw could only have dreamed off.
while eaglepaw and hazelwhisker were chosen to stay and guard the entrance, littlepaw was selected to be stonestar's accompanying cat into the cave. she followed close behind her leader into the dark cave of mothermouth, afraid of getting lost, though stonestar seemed certain of the way. they eventually reached a cavern that flooded with moonlight, beaming down upon a brilliant stone, the moonstone, to which stonestar approached and touched his nose to, falling asleep. littlepaw watched, chilled with awe and amazement, unable to move, as the light eventually died away and the cavern returned to darkness once more. but, stonestar awoke and lead the way back out from the tunnels, greeting eaglepaw and hazelwhisker outside, and taking lead on the journey home, leaving the image of the moonstone burned into littlepaw's memory.
it wasn't long after littlepaw and her patrol had returned from the moonstone that briarpaw and stonepaw were named apprentices, promoted to the warrior status and renamed briarstorm and stonefang. littlepaw felt as proud of the toms as she would have at her own warrior ceremony, though there was a great deal more pride for briarstorm. she had grown to feel something for the tom over their apprenticeship, perhaps a simple, childhood crush.
though littlepaw was separated from briarstorm and stonefang by rank, she gained a new companion to train with once again. a new set of apprentices were named, and littlepaw found herself drawn to a young she-cat named firepaw. the two she-cats seemed to have an instant connection, and littlepaw introduced briarstorm and firepaw properly, hoping her friends could be friends as well. it seemed her hopes had worked out quite well, and the three cats seemed to forge an instant bond.
though littlepaw had a really rather happy apprenticeship, there was a dark spot near it's end that she would remember forever. eaglepaw had gone out on a patrol with rowanfire, hazelwhisker, and another young warrior named ashtail. the patrol had left peacefully, with eaglepaw eagerly chatting ashtail's ear off, but had returned with the young tom shrieking, racing back into camp. what followed was hazelwhisker and ashtail pulling rowanfire's body into camp, leaving littlepaw stunned and mousepelt wailing, flinging down besides her mate's body. hazelwhisker's report to stonestar told the clan that they had met a badger on patrol, and in their attempt to chase it off, they had lost a member of the patrol. the whole clan grieved at the loss, with a few cats sitting vigil for the fallen tom. mousepelt seemed to choke back sobs all night, and eaglepaw's eyes seemed unfocused, as if he was watching their father die in front of his eyes over and over again. littlepaw simply crouched besides the father she wished she knew better, her muzzle pressed against his fur and her eyes closed, listening to the cats breathing around her until morning came.
about a moon after the death of rowanfire, happier times returned, especially when hazelwhisker and redfang announced that eaglepaw and littlepaw would be having their warrior assessments, and, if they passed, they were warriors. eaglepaw and littlepaw couldn't hold in their delight, and felt ready for anything their mentors could throw at them.
with a final training session and a patrol to test their skills, their warrior assessment came, where each apprentice would hunt as much as they could before sunset, their mentors following. littlepaw was proud of her haul, bringing home two mice, three sparrows, and a hare for the clan, and eaglepaw smug with his catch of two voles, a pigeon, and a pheasant. by the time all four cats carried the fresh-kill back to camp, eaglepaw and littlepaw were quite confident they had done very well. and, it seemed, their guesses were correct when they were informed their warrior ceremony would be that evening.
▸ warrior the sun had set and the stars were already appearing in the sky when stonestar called the clan together for the warrior ceremony. the clan seemed excited for the apprentices, and mousepelt looked ready to burst with pride. stonestar named eagleflight first, honoring his strength and sending hazelwhisker beaming at her former apprentice. littlepaw stood before stonestar, offering her most sincere promise to serve thunderclan, even at the cost of her life, and was given the name littlewhisker, and honoring her bravery. redfang was the first to congratulate her, followed by yowls of approval from the clan. mousestep's yowl rang loudest of all, and littlewhisker wondered if her mother was yowling to rowanfire in starclan. but, as the crowd dispersed, the two new warriors were left to sit their vigil, guarding the camp in silence.
by the time they were relieved of their vigil the next morning, the two youngster's fur had been fluffed up against the chill of early leaf-fall, and they were more than happy to take their place in the warrior's den, curled up together in new nests. but, as warriors, they weren't allowed to sleep the day away every day, and as redfang's former apprentice, she was quite careful to make sure she did her duties properly, so she didn't reflect badly on the deputy.
for the better part of six moons, littlewhsiker lived a pretty quiet existence, cheering when eaglestep received his first apprentice, preforming her warrior duties diligently, and congratulating her brother proudly when his apprentice became a warrior. eagleflight had worked hard with his apprentice, and littlewhisker and mousepelt couldn't be prouder of him.
by the time eagleflight's apprentice had become a warrior, littlewhisker was told she was ready to receive her first apprentice, one of the kits in the oldest litter of kits in the nursery. the day after stonestar had told her, they preformed the ceremony at sunhigh, and littlewhisker was the proud new mentor to a burly tom named mudpaw.
mudpaw proved to be an eager apprentice, though perhaps a little bold and mischievous, and littlewhisker had to be mindful to keep the young tom busy. their first training session had only been a tour of the territory and the young tom's first visit of all the borders, and they had moved up from there. mudpaw had done well on his first hunt, and had seemed to pick up basic battle moves with no problem, and littlewhisker had caught him practicing with his littermates outside the apprentice den on more than one occasion.
when redfang and stonestar suggested it was time for mudpaw's warrior assessment a few moons later, littlewhisker proudly agreed it was, thinking mudpaw and his littermates had all worked hard and had proven to be capable young cats. unlike littlewhisker's warrior assessment of hunting, redfang had taken the apprentices out for a battle training assessment, going at the apprentices on his own and in pairs, but returned to camp later than evening with words of approval for all of them.
the next day at sunhigh, the clan was called together by stonestar, announcing that mudpaw and his littermates were ready to become warriors. mudpaw was renamed mudtail, honored for his enthusiasm, much to the young tom's pleasure. littlewhisker offered her own congratulations to the tom, warning him that just because she wasn't his mentor anymore didn't mean he didn't have to be afraid of coming to her for advice, leaving mudtail to thank her warmly.
littlewhisker was feeling high, proud and pleased with her work as a thunderclan warrior, and she was sure there would be little to tamper her happy feelings. but, she was proven wrong two moons later.
the apprentices were the first cats to scent the smoke. yowls of alarm and shrieks warning of fire rang through the camp, and stonestar and redfang sprang into action. stonestar waited at the top of thunderclan's ravine, sending every cat his way to the river, towards safety from the fire, and redfang hung back in the camp, unwilling to leave until every cat was out of the camp. littlewhisker insisted she stayed in thunderclan camp with her former mentor, but he snapped at her not to be brave but to be useful and lead all the apprentices to safety. rounding up all the ones who were sheltering in their den, pushing them up the ravine, racing along side them towards the river, glancing over her shoulder to make sure they all were keeping up behind her. by the time the thunderclan cats arrived at the river, their coats were black with smoke and soot, and they were pacing anxiously besides the water. stonestar had arrived, but a few of their clanmates were missing, including kits and elders, as well as their deputy.
littlewhisker was one of the cats who waded back and forth both ways in the river, paddling desperately with short legs against the current, but strong enough to make sure elders could swim across with her held, and able to paddle high enough to hold a kit in her jaws, tipping her head back to make sure it didn't breathe in water as well as smoke. by the time most of thunderclan was across the river, redfang and the missing warriors returned, carrying a live kit and four dead ones, as well as carrying bodies of the elders. queens were shrieking on the shore, anguished by their kits, and several fresh-warriors swam back to help their injuried deputy and warriors cross. cats went back to carry the bodies of their dead back to the other side of the shore. littlewhisker was sickened to see the state of redfang, looking as though most his fur was burned off, and his skin charred. eagleflight was weazing heavily, mousepelt helping him swim to the safety of riverclan's shores, but sounding like he couldn't get the smoke from his lungs.
it wasn't long before riverclan arrived, looking at the sorry lot of thunderclan cats with howling queens and bodies about, bringing them back to the riverclan camp. the bodies were respectfully buried, but the fate of the living cats felt far less certain, with the fire still raging and the thunderclan cats left at the mercy of riverclan, who were sharing their camp and their prey. cats, though they were alive crossing the river, did not seem to be able to survive the trauma of the fire. eagleflight died that night in the riverclan camp, followed by mudtail later in the night, and their bodies were politely moved into the center of the riverclan camp, allowing the thunderclan cats to grieve.
littlewhisker's first vigil, she had spent largely silent. now, the young queen sobbed as loud as mousepelt besides her, wondering how she could survive the loss of her brother and her apprentice in one evening. mousepelt seemed at a loss for what to say anymore, having lost one son and her mate, only to lose another ... there was no soothing the two she-cats.
it wasn't until the next gathering that thunderclan cats learned what fate they would face. their territory was still burning in sections, and what they could see across the river looked charred and covered in ash, not suitable for cats to return to without starving. stonestar seemed to be at the mercy of his fellow leaders, but, they seemed to take pity on the fallen clan. windclan and riverclan agreed to give a sliver of territory between the two clans for thunderclan's temporary home, until the forest was safe to return to. stonestar was too grateful to argue, and knew that his clan needed to live and survive somewhere.
the next day, the clan moved. there were very few elders remaining, and only two kits had survived, but they still had wounded cats remaining, including redfang, who seemed constantly on the verge of joining starclan from his horrific wounds. littlewhisker traveled with her mentor, hazelwhisker on his other side, until they decided on a temporary camp and could settle redfang in the new medicine cat's den.
for two moons, redfang seemed to survive his treatments and wounds, but, under the early, harsh grip of leafbare, he seemed to be failing. it wasn't long before the thunderclan deputy joined starclan for good, leaving thunderclan to mourn their loss, a loss that would never truly be replaced. littlewhisker settled down besides her mentor for his vigil, grooming his fur and waiting, with the others, for stonestar's announcement for who would be their deputy.
▸ deputy just before moonigh, stonestar stepped away from redfang's body, moving towards a boulder he had selected days earlier as their meeting place, and hauling himself up it. her yowled for the clan to gather, though there was no real need, as they were all waiting below to see who could possibly replace redfang. stonestar summoned the words for the deputy ceremony, calling upon redfang's spirit to hear and approve of his choice.
littlewhisker simply hadn't believed she would be selected as her mentor's successor.
but the encouraging and approving voices of thunderclan around her, as well as the brushing pelts of mousepelt and hazelwhisker on either side of her gave littlewhisker courage, courage enough to tell stonestar and thunderclan that she accepted the position, and would do her best to serve them until her own dying breath.
like all the thunderclan cats trying to get used to their new, unfamiliar territory and the loss of redfang, littlewhisker's first days of deputy weren't particularly smooth, riddled with mistakes and fumbles. but the clan was understanding and sympathetic, and it only took a few days for warriors and deputy to find a balance and a groove that worked for them. the clan seemed so ready to accept and believe in littlewhisker, so much so that it continued to amaze the she-cat for moons, wondering if they saw something in her that she could not see in herself.
bravery and courage was what stonestar told her as to why he picked her, claiming it was what redfang had said about her from the day she had been named his apprentice. had her mentor seen something great in her, something great enough to assure stonestar that she would be a worthy deputy? but stonestar assured her she had shown it in her refusal to leave the fire, the courage it took to trust to leave redfang behind, and the bravery she had upheld to keep the clan calm and make sure they all made it across the river. she had always done it for her clan, never for recognition.
the ranks of leadership were certainly changing during littlewhisker's tenure as deputy. stonestar seemed heavily affected by the fire, devastated by the loss of his home and refuge status in a temporary one. but nothing seemed to hit him quite as hard as the death of redfang, his deputy for many long moons. stonestar would start spending more time in his den alone, his pelt ungroomed and his thoughts in the past or the future. it was up to fireleaf, the medicine cat, to make sure he had plenty of soothing herbs, and littlewhisker would check on the tom frequently to make sure he was eating and feeling alright. his mind was still sharp, and his loyalty to his clan strong, but he seemed to grow old and frail away from his home. stonestar was not the only one who seemed to diminish in their new home, with mousepelt falling ill with greencough and dying just a few short days later, losing the battle her son had many moons ago. littlewhisker curled up besides her mother at her vigil, realizing that her family now really was gone.
after moons of waiting for the forest to start regrowing, the clan was still exiled to their strip of land between riverclan and windclan, something that made the thunderclan cats constantly anxious. they had no idea when their rival's sympathy and generosity would end, and they constantly feared being attacked by either clan, or being in the middle of a battle between those two clans. they were weak and smaller in numbers before, it was something that made them fearful. even as frail as stonestar had become, the tom seemed to recognize the potential for war between their current allies, and warned littlewhisker that her job could very soon be harder. though, littlewhisker did not know at the time stonestar was well aware that he wouldn't be making back to his forest home.
for three seasons, littlewhisker served faithfully as thunderclan's deputy, working hard in place of small thunderclan numbers and keeping a close eye on stonestar's health, though it became clear to all cats that the tom was aging, and that he was quite likely on his last life based on his age. it was quite intimidating to littlewhisker, thinking that her clan would be looking to her as leader, and that stonestar had started preparing her for the task as he continued to age.
eventually, stonestar's body gave out, though the clan never really understood what had done their noble leader in. perhaps it was being away from his home for so long. perhaps it was the fierce longing to be back with old clanmates. or perhaps he was too old to face any more change and simply waited for starclan to fetch him. the entire clan came to say their goodbyes to stonestar's body, and those closest to him sat at his vigil. littlewhisker was so upset to be sitting at another vigil, losing yet another cat she was close to, but she hoped that stonestar would be at peace.
when the sun rose the next morning, it was littlewhisker's first morning as a leader, and the beginning of yet another long journey.
▸ leader when the elders carried off stonestar's body for burial, littlewhisker was aware of fireleaf approaching her, reminding the nearly leader that they had to venture to the highstone, to the moonstone, where littlewhisker would receive her nine lives and name. after setting up patrols for the day, the two cats set off, thankfully managing to avoid windclan patrols as they traveled.
as the pair of she-cats reached highstones, they rested outside the entrance, not able to hunt if they hoped to share dreams with starclan, but willing to doze in the sun after their long vigil the night before. but they were careful to not doze off entirely, rising to their paws and padding to the entrance of mothermouth. fireleaf was more familiar with the dark tunnels, and lead the way, littlewhisker following close behind. eventually, they broke into a cavern, dark at first, but eventually lit with moonlight, shining onto the mooonstone.
littlewhisker had seen the moonstone once before, on her apprentice journey with stonestar, but she had never shared dreams with starclan before, a feat that made her apprehensive and really quite nervous. she padded forward, crouching in front of the moonstone and touching her nose to the icy surface, her eyes closed. but when she opened her eyes, she was no longer at the moonstone, but at fourtrees, with silverpelt burning brilliantly above. and, not only that, but the stars were floating down, turning into cats to surround her, their familiar faces everywhere. oh, how she had missed them all.
a tiny kit was the first cat to step forward to give her a life, and littlewhisker was stunned by how much he resembled mousepelt. but, then she realized, this was her brother, brownkit, who had died when they were still quite young. she bent her head to touch noses with the tom, nearly screeching when he gave her a life for healing and remedy, and to hope that new paths of medicine would always be found.
the second cat to step forward was a tom littlewhisker had not seen in a long time, her father, rowanfire. he had not lived long enough to see any of his kits become warriors. was he surprised to see his daughter become a leader? but his gaze did not reflect surprise, only pride. he dipped his head to rest his muzzle against hers, and littlewhisker nearly bit her tongue not to yowl when she received the life of pride and duty.
littlewhisker did not recognize the next cat to step forward, only noting that it was a bold ginger she-cat who introduced herself as meadowstar, a thunderclan leader who had walked the forest before stonestar had even been born. littlewhisker reached forward to accept this life, her teeth clenched with the prediction of pain, as she felt the jolt of a life flow through her ears to tail tip, with meadowstar offering wisdom and teaching, something that all leaders would need.
the fourth cat to pad towards littlewhisker was yet another stranger, a gray she-cat with a scared face. littlewhisker managed to catch the name graytail in a rather fast introduction, and that this cat had once been meadowstar's deputy. littlewhisker met graytail's outstretched muzzle and could feel yet another life flow through her. a life for determination, she realized, by the steadfast stubbornness and will to succeed and prevail. she would need it to bring thunderclan home.
stonestar stepped forward to greet his deputy, his green eyes had glowed with approval at the sight of his chosen cat receiving her nine lives and name. littlewhisker had stepped forward to accept her new life, bracing for the pain, and accepting a life with something precious. faith. faith would be needed to bring them home, something that would be in her path to do. it would take faith to restore their clan, but littlewhisker felt more determined than ever to try.
mudtail was the cat who stepped forward to give littlewhisker her sixth life. the mentor and apprentice touched noses again, and littlewhisker could resist pulling her head away in pain as mudtail gave her the gift of learning, something he teased she did not really need, but would always be glad to have and to utilize. it was a shame to watch the young tom turn away, realizing he would never have an apprentice of his own, but realizing what his gift to her had really meant.
the sight of her mother was a welcome one, and littlewhisker bounded forward to meet her when the beautiful she-cat padded towards her. the two touched noses and littlewhisker jolted with agony at the life she received. pure love, both powerful and protective, and littlewhisker wondered if that's how fiercely mousepelt had loved her kits, and, with another though, how much she would love her own kits some day. but, it was now her job to love the clan every bit as much.
though she was expecting to see him, littlewhisker's breath had hitched in her throat at the sight of eagleflight, bowing her head gratefully to her brother as he padded to join her. she had missed him terribly, and had grieved that he had not made it back home. but she touched noses with her littermate, ready to receive pain again in exchange for her brother's life, taking in strong bursts of strength and determination, the same thing that had gotten him through the fire until he could be with his family again.
then, for her last life, her former mentor, redfang, stepped forward, his eyes welcoming and proud at the sight of his last apprentice, the cat who had succeeded him. the two greeted each other warmly, and littlewhisker accepted this life gladly, ready to push past the pain for redfang's spirit and wisdom again. this life, he had told her, was courage, not that he had thought she ever needed more, but courage and bravery enough to serve her clan and give her life for them if needed. and yet, littlewhisker knew that she would do that if she had one life or nine. the cats stepped back to gaze approvingly at littlewhisker, yowling out a cheer for her new name littlestar, before the sight and cheers of starclan cats broke off, leaving littlestar with a vision of the thunderclan forest in flames, the dark shapes of cats yowling battlecries and launching at one another. the thunderclan leader couldn't figure out what the vision had meant, but as she discussed with with fireleaf on their return journey to camp, she decided to put it from her mind.
upon their return to their temporary camp, the clan greeted them with excitement and warmth, greeting littlestar by her new name. littlestar greeted them with equal warmth, but was feeling really quite tired and ready for some sleep after her long days of travel and exhausting night. so, the she-cat set up the patrols and retreated to stonestar's old den for some rest, and for some time alone to consider her new deputy.
[this paragraph will serve as littlestar's announcement of deputy. this will be edited in once a deputy is selected.]
littlestar's leadership of their temporary territory between riverclan and windclan was stable, but also rather short lived, lasting only about a season. by this point, littlestar had sent an exploration parol back to their forest home, and the cats returned covered in soot, but reporting the beginning of plant growth and that prey had returned to the territory. though it would be difficult to survive in their home, littlestar made the decision that it was time to return, to take themselves out of the mercy of riverclan and windclan, and back to the territory they so desperately longed for. though there was fear in the eyes of her clanmates at the announcement, there was hope too. at the next gathering, littlestar announced that thunderclan would be traveling home in two days time.
like the exploration patrol had warned, the forest was quite different. scorch marks still covered the trees, and much of the undergrowth had been burnt past repair. but, there were signs of life, including the start of leaf buds on the trees, sprouts of new plants springing from the ash, and scents of prey as well as birdcalls. it would be a hard recovery, but they would survive. and, better yet, they were home.
